Our Story

Why we built an educational platform about something most people learn too late.

It Started With a Payslip Nobody Could Explain

When you receive your first salary in Romania, you also receive a document called a fluturаș de salariu. It lists your gross salary at the top and a much smaller number at the bottom. In between are rows of deductions: CAS, CASS, impozit pe venit, and sometimes other lines that appear without obvious explanation.

Most new employees do not receive any guidance on reading this document. Human resources departments are busy. Colleagues assume everyone already knows. Parents may have worked under a different system entirely. So the payslip gets filed away, or thrown away, and the confusion simply becomes a background noise of working life.

The idea for Wamoli Xifero came from exactly that experience. Not from a grand theory about financial education, but from the specific, practical problem of standing in front of a payslip and not knowing what it means.

From that starting point, the platform expanded to cover the two things that most naturally follow from understanding a payslip: building a budget based on what you actually take home, and creating a small emergency fund so that unexpected expenses do not derail everything else.

Small team of professionals in their thirties gathered around a whiteboard discussing financial education content, collaborative and focused atmosphere
Financial literacy does not require complexity. It requires clarity about the basics, applied consistently to real numbers.

The Wamoli Xifero editorial principle

What We Deliberately Exclude

The platform does not recommend banking products, investment instruments, insurance policies, or any financial services. This is a deliberate editorial choice. Introducing products at the foundational learning stage creates confusion between education and sales. We keep them separate.

Why Romania Specifically

Romanian employment law creates a particular gap between gross and net salary that surprises many new earners. CAS contributions, CASS deductions, and the income tax rate combine in ways that are specific to Romanian contracts. Generic financial education from other markets does not cover these details accurately.

Why We Keep It Small

The scope is intentional. Three learning formats covering payslip literacy, monthly budgeting, and emergency savings. That combination addresses the most common knowledge gap for people in the first two years of employment. Depth within a narrow focus is more useful than breadth at shallow levels.

The People

Who Builds the Content

Each team member brings a different perspective on financial education and plain-language communication.

Andrei Munteanu

Curriculum Lead

Andrei spent several years working in corporate HR in Bucharest before shifting to educational content development. His background in onboarding processes gave him a clear picture of which financial concepts new employees consistently misunderstood. He leads the development of the payslip course, ensuring every explanation reflects how Romanian employment contracts actually work rather than theoretical frameworks. His approach to writing prioritizes the question a new earner would actually ask before the answer, rather than presenting information in the order it appears on official documents.

Elena Popa

Workshop Designer

Elena's background is in instructional design, with a particular focus on mobile-first learning formats. She designed the ten-minute budget workshop with a strict constraint: every step had to be completable on a phone screen without any additional tools or downloads. This constraint turned out to produce a significantly more practical result than previous versions that assumed desktop access and spreadsheet familiarity. Elena reviews every workshop iteration against the question of whether someone could genuinely complete it during a lunch break on their first day of trying to budget.

Mihai Ionescu

Content Researcher

Mihai researches the regulatory and legislative context that shapes Romanian employment finance: current CAS and CASS contribution rates, income tax thresholds, and how changes in legislation affect what appears on a payslip. He ensures that the content on the platform reflects current law rather than historical examples that may no longer apply. He also monitors the most common questions asked by first-job earners in online communities and professional forums, using those patterns to identify gaps in the existing content and suggest new topics for development.
